\It’s almost here! Summer Music Camp is a fun-packed week of music and learning. During this week, campers will strengthen their musical skills in small group and large ensembles in an understanding and dynamic atmosphere. Campers will also have the opportunity to work with qualified musicians and music educators from Nevada and Georgia. The highlight of the week will be the Camp Concert. Campers will learn the entire repertoire in one week and will perform in a concert setting, open to the public, at the conclusion of the camp, on Friday, June 29, at 7:00PM. This will be a charity concert to raise funds for the Middle and High School music programs.
The band camp is for young musicians entering grades 7-12, with at least one year of band and/or string instruction. Lunch will be provided each day and each camper will receive their music, pencil, camp t-shirt, and music folder, all at no charge!
The choral camp is for young musicians entering grades 3-12, with at least one year of chorus and/or choir in school or church. Lunch will be provided each day and each camper will receive music, pencil, camp t-shirt, cinch bag, and wrist band,
The vocal mini camp is open to all young musicians entering grades 3-12, This mini camp will focus on group choral singing and a more advanced repertoire than the morning choral camp. This mini camp is especially designed for students taking part in the orchestral/band camp who would also like vocal instruction. Each camper will receive music, pencil, camp t-shirt, cinch bag, and wrist band,
The camp director will be Adam Howard, originally from Greenville, South Carolina. Mr. Howard serves as the Worship Pastor at First Baptist Church of the Islands in Savannah, GA. He has served churches in Georgia and South Carolina working with choirs and orchestras as a Minister of Music and Worship Pastor for the past eighteen years. He has also performed with several groups in concerts halls across the southeast. Mr. Howard is currently pursuing two Masters of Church Music degrees, one in Choral and Orchestral Conducting and another in Vocal Performance.
The camp guest orchestral conductor will be Mr. Michael Lutz, originally from Ohio. Mr. Lutz began his music career at The Ohio State University and as a member of the US Army Band. Mr. Lutz has more than 37 years of teaching experience, primarily in middle and high schools, serving 19 of those years as director of bands. Mr. Lutz has served in the music program of several local churches and currently serves at First Baptist Church of the Islands in Savannah, GA.
The camp guest choral conductors are Ms. Cynthia Dooley from Savannah, Georgia, and Ms. Amanda Richards from Tifton, Georgia. Ms. Dooley is a retired elementary music teacher. During her career, her students performed with the National Children's Choir at Carnegie Hall in New York and at various venues throughout the southeast. Ms. Dooley has been actively involved with the American Orff Schulwerk Association and Georgia Music Educator Association. Ms. Dooley actively serves at First Baptist Church of the Islands in Savannah, GA.
Ms. Richards has been a music educator for 12 years (1 year in high school chorus and 11 in elementary school music/chorus). Additionally, she taught beginning band for 7 years and has also directed school plays. Ms. Richards is a graduate of Mercer University in Macon, GA, and Georgia College in Milledgeville, GA. Ms. Richards serves in the music ministry at First Baptist Church of the Islands in Savannah, GA
